  • [00:00:03] Welcome to Ill Communication, Copywriting, Tips and sales strategies for small Business. I'm your host, Kim Keel. I'm a copy coach, sales strategist and direct response copywriter. It's my mission to help women leaders and change makers amplify their voices through copy. It's why I'm dishing out all the juicy tips, writing prompts and sales formulas to help you generate more leads, book more calls, and get more high value clients on repeat. Sounds pretty good. It's time to ditch the overwhelm you might be feeling and find confidence in your copywriting so you can get your message out there and attract more soulmate clients. Let's get started. Well, hello there, my sweet friend, and welcome to the Ill Communication podcast. Now, before you get too comfy and [00:01:00] cozy, please grab your beverage, grab your double espresso, your kombucha, your water, or even a flute of bubbly, because today we are celebrating the one year anniversary of the Ill Communication podcast, and I am raising my glass to you for tuning in each week or whenever you can to listen to the episodes and to take the tips and lessons you learned and implement them in your communications, your marketing and your copy. So cheers to you, my friend. It's because of you listening, sharing, engaging that the Ill Communication podcast has survived its first year, and in my prep for this episode, I was super surprised to discover that 80% of podcasts do not survive the first year.

[00:01:53] Based on my downloads and listenership, this podcast didn't just survive, but it kind of kicked ass. And [00:02:00] based on my downloads and listenership, this podcast is among the top 25% of podcasts for weekly downloads. And according to listen notes, the Ill Communication podcast is in the top 5% of most popular shows out of 3,156,000 podcasts globally. So the fact that my little podcast is still chugging along is because listeners like you tell me you enjoy it because you subscribe to it and listen to it, and you actually follow some of the tips and writing prompts. Now, because this episode marks one year of podcasting, I thought I'd share a few reflections and lessons learned, and I'm announcing a fun contest and giveaway you will want to get into. So keep listening. But before I carry on, I have to give a huge shout out and gratitude to my podcast manager, Stephanie Judice and her crack team. The only way this podcast [00:03:00] appears on your podcast player every week, sounding so good and professional is because of Stephanie and her team. Thank you guys for everything you do to make this podcast possible. I truly could not do it without you. Now I want to back up and share a little bit about why I started the podcast in the first place.

[00:03:23] It's because as a copywriter, as a marketer and a business owner, I am terrible at creating my own content to build my authority and build, know, like and trust with my audience. I've never been a blogger and I'm super inconsistent at social media. And I personally love listening to podcasts because I write all day long. I chose podcasting because I wanted to create content on a different medium. I wanted a different way to share my voice, my actual voice. Yes, I write in script most of these episodes, [00:04:00] but getting to speak the content into a microphone that travels across the ether into your ears feels pretty magical to me. It feels like more of a connection, and it's one that I do not take for granted. So I launched the Ill Communication podcast because I wanted to give myself some discipline and accountability to create and share content on a regular basis and to share content I believe will make life and work a little easier for women business owners. I also really love how podcasting is a way to create connection and share value with a worldwide audience. It's free to anyone to consume. So in my view, it makes learning about copywriting, marketing and entrepreneurship super accessible. You can listen while you're doing other tasks, whether you're commuting, going out for a walk, putting on your makeup or cleaning the house.

[00:04:57] And lastly, I created the podcast with the hopes [00:05:00] it would expand my audience and reach and ultimately lead to clients. Now, I have no hard data yet that shows someone listened to my podcast and then decided to work with me. But I am finding the sales conversions I'm having are generally pretty easy to close and I'm having a good response to my workshops and offers, so I do know that it is supporting my business. Plus, I've always viewed this podcast as a long game. I've never expected to get rich quick or find sponsors right out of the gate, though. If you or your business would like to sponsor the podcast, please reach out. I found some of the data about my podcast a little interesting, and so I wanted to share with you a little bit about what I learned about my podcast after the first year of podcasting. There have been 5947 downloads of the episodes of the Ill Communication podcast. I've published 54 episodes. I'm reaching people in more than 51 different countries and over [00:06:00] 585 different cities around the world. Now the majority of listens are in Canada and the US. But it always delights me when I see that people are listening In Frankfurt, Phnom Penh, Cape Town, Chester, Moldova, Poland and Ukraine. I just think it's so cool that someone in Cape Town, South Africa, is listening to this podcast.

[00:06:21] Now, in terms of how people listen to the podcast, there really aren't many surprises. 85% of you are listening to this on a mobile device, 52% listen on Apple Podcasts, followed by 14% on Spotify. I also took a look at my most popular episodes and the top five most downloaded or listened to episodes in order are number one. Episode 27 Reality Bites five Things I Wish I Knew before Starting My Business as a Gen-Xer. Episode 32 How to Write a Killer About Page with the Hello [00:07:00] Framework. Episode 26 The X Factor Why Gen X Women Are an Untapped Market. Episode two. How to Write Your Bio with the five Sentence Formula and Episode 30. Use before and after bridge to close more Sales. I think it's super interesting that two of the most popular episodes have less to do with copywriting and marketing and more to do with the realities of being a Gen X woman and being a Gen X woman in business. I'll drop the links to those episodes in the show notes in case you want to go back and give them a listen. So now that we're a year in, where do I go from here? What am I planning for the year ahead? And to be perfectly honest, I have no idea. And that's where I need your help.

[00:07:47] I want to know what you enjoy listening to. What's working for you, or what would you love to hear more of or less of? So I'm giving you a chance to share some feedback with me, and I really hope [00:08:00] you'll take a moment to share it. I would love, love, love if you would take a few minutes to fill out a listener and subscriber survey to share your honest thoughts about ill communication about my email newsletter, the content and workshops I share and offer any suggestions going forward. You can fill out the survey anonymously or if you include your email and name, you'll be entered into a draw to win a free no website or sales copy audit where I'll review and make recommendations for how to improve sales and conversions on a website sales page, even an email sequence.
