Welcome to Ill Communication. Copywriting Tips and Sales Strategies for Small Business. I'm your host, Kim Keel. I'm a copy coach, sales strategist and direct response copywriter. It's my mission to help women leaders and changemakers amplify their voices through copy. It's why I'm dishing out all the juicy tips, writing prompts and sales formulas to help you generate more leads, book more calls, and get more high value clients on repeat. Sounds pretty good. It's time to ditch the overwhelm you might be feeling and find confidence in your copywriting so you can get your message out there and attract more soul mate clients. Let's get started. Hey there. Welcome to episode 29 of the Ill Communication Podcast. Today's episode is perfect for you if your creative juices are running a little dry. Maybe a haven't sent an email to your list in a while, or you just need some ideas for a social media post and no judgment either way. I'm dropping another writing prompt into your ears today. This writing prompt is ideal for nurture and pre-launch content. It helps to build your authority. It showcases your expertise, and it builds, know, like, and trust. It also drops a huge value bomb. The writing prompt is the number of things I wish I knew before I became a blank. As in things I wish I knew before I became a mom. Before I lost £50. Before I became a coach, before I turned 50.
Writing This is pretty simple. You just grab a pen, open your notes app or a fresh Google doc and think about what did you wish you knew before you began running your business or before you had a significant health transformation or launched a new service. What were some of the lessons you learned the hard way and what made the journey easier for you? What was surprising? Did you have any funny or embarrassing mistakes you made along the way? Choose three, five, seven, or even ten or 11, depending on how long you want your email or article to be. You could obviously repurpose this into a real a tick tock or it would make a great carousel post. Now, this prompt works really well because people love reading or hearing about lessons and stories you've experienced. Because we don't want to make the same mistakes you made, and we're always looking for a fast path to reach our goals. So as you're listing out your top lessons or the top things you wish you knew, make sure you're keeping your reader in mind. What lessons would be helpful to them on their journey? And once you've written your five or seven or 11 Things you Wish You Knew, then go back and start brainstorming some juicy subject lines and headlines. But I'll give you a couple here to get you started. And of course, you could absolutely just use the writing prompt itself as the headline or subject line.
So five things I wish I Knew before I Lost £50 or seven Things I Wish I Knew before I launched my first course. Or you can get a little more creative with some open loop subject lines like Wish I Knew this or Hop into the DeLorean. We're going back in time. Or I was so embarrassed. What's funny is when I picked up this prompt and prepped for today's episode, I actually saw two live examples of this exact prompt being used online. Someone I follow named Coty Sanchez, who helps people invest in boring businesses like car washes and laundromats, shared a carousel on LinkedIn about the seven Things I wish I Knew before my first business failed. A friend and colleague who's in a coaching community with me shared five things I learned the hard way. Entrepreneur Edition And if you're paying attention to the content I share, you'll notice that back on episode 27, I used this exact prompt to create five things I wish I Knew before starting my business as a Gen Xer. It quickly became one of the most popular episodes I've released so far, with way more downloads in the first 24 hours than any other episode. So this prompt is a keeper, a link to that episode in the show notes so you can go back and listen to it as a live example, and also just because it's a really good episode.
Anyway, my friend, that is your writing prompt for this month. Number of things I wish I knew before I blink.
