31: Write stronger copy using the 4-U Formula
Ready for a super simple framework that will help you make sure that everything you publish will get eyeballs or clicks?
In this episode of ill communication, I’m sharing the 4-U formula. This is a simple framework or formula that's going to help you assess whether your copy is ready to go out into the world.
The 4 U’s were developed by business coach and serial entrepreneur Michael Masterson and this formula is great for assessing your headlines, titles, email subject lines, Facebook ads, and any kind of short copy. It's also a brilliant formula to assess whether your offer is actually ready to be released.
Topics We Cover in This Episode:
What the 4 U’s are
How this formula works
What type of copy to use it for
This quick, simple, formula is great to remember whenever you are writing short, snappy copy. Remember to think of the 4 U’s and make sure they apply to everything you write. This will help your copy stand out and catch the attention of your ideal audience.

Hello and welcome to this episode of L Communication. Today you're going to get a super simple framework to make sure that everything you publish is going to get eyeballs or clicks. Today I'm sharing the four use. This is a simple framework or formula that's going to help you assess whether your copy is ready to go out into the world. Now, the four views were developed by business coach and serial entrepreneur Michael Masterson in this formula is great for assessing your headlines, titles, email subject lines, Facebook ads, any kind of short copy. It's also a brilliant formula to assess whether your offer is actually ready to go out into the world. You can certainly use this formula to assess any kind of copy that you send out, but it's just very impactful for that short, snappy copy that you want to write. So the four use R, is it useful? Is it urgent? Is it unique? And is it ultra specific? So let me break this down for you. The four use give you a checklist to make sure your offer is ready to sell. So the first view, is it useful? You want to first demonstrate that your offer is useful to your reader or buyer. Does it actually solve a problem that your reader has? Does it provide value? And because if it's not useful, no one will want to read it. No one will want to purchase it. So that first view is, is it useful? The second thing on the checklist, is there any urgency? Now, we're not talking about false scarcity or manufactured urgency, but what is at stake if your reader doesn't take action? And if there is an actual deadline or a limited number of seats available, definitely share that in the copy.
So that's point number two. Is there any urgency? Is it urgent that someone buys your solution right now? The third view is, is it unique? Describe what's special and different about your offer. How is your solution different or better than other products on the market? You want to make sure that you can highlight what's unique about your offer. What's unique in the headline? The fourth view is to be ultra specific. You want to avoid generalizations. You want to be specific. Call in exactly who this offer is for. What is the specific problem you solve? So, for example, you don't just want to say this is a time management solution for moms. You might want to say this is a time management solution for new moms or for new moms with multiples. Wherever you can add in additional specific details to really zero in on who your solution is for and how you're going to help them, that's going to help you. So in this very quick, easy, simple formula, make sure everything you create follows the four use. Make sure it's useful. Make sure there's urgency. Is it unique? Share what's unique about it and make sure you're being ultra specific. That is our short little episode for today.
