60: [Writing Prompt] Caution! May Cause Side Effects
Today ill communication is on its 60th episode!
If it were a person, it would be targeted and inundated by ads and marketing for anti-aging medication, shingles, vaccinations, heart medication, and other drugs to create health and healing in an aging population.
And those advertisements would all reference the side effects.
This leads me to the writing prompt that I’m sharing today- the side effects of working with you!
This prompt is intentionally fun and playful and it forces your customers to think about the benefits of working with you.
Topics We Cover in This Episode:
What this writing prompt is and how it can be used
Why I love this writing prompt so much
Some subject line and headline inspiration using this prompt
I hope you enjoyed this episode and that you get to add this writing prompt to your copy this week.

[00:00:03] Welcome to Ill Communication, Copywriting, Tips and sales strategies for small Business. I'm your host, Kim Keel. I'm a copy coach, sales strategist and direct response copywriter. It's my mission to help women leaders and change makers amplify their voices through copy. It's why I'm dishing out all the juicy tips, writing prompts and sales formulas to help you generate more leads, book more calls, and get more high value clients on repeat. Sounds pretty good. It's time to ditch the overwhelm you might be feeling and find confidence in your copywriting so you can get your message out there and attract more soulmate clients. Let's get started. Hey. Hey, my friend. This is the 60th episode of Ill Communication. That means the podcast is officially the big six [00:01:00] zero. If my podcast was a person, it would be targeted and inundated by ads and marketing for anti-aging medication, shingles, vaccinations, heart medication, and other drugs to create health and healing in an aging population. And I'm sure you've noticed when you see these ads on TV or hear them on the radio, there is always a final bit of copy and messaging about the side effects. It usually sounds something like this. Side effects may include, but are not limited to headache, nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, decreased appetite, increased sweating, feeling nervous, feeling restless, feeling fatigued, feeling sleepy or having trouble sleeping. Thing is, medical copywriters have to include these side effects in their advertisements.
[00:01:46] But what if you applied the concept of side effects to your own business and offers and not the negative effects, but the positive ones? Today I'm sharing a writing prompt about how to talk about the good [00:02:00] side effects of working with you. I've used this approach in the weight loss industry. I've written ads that highlight the side effects of getting healthier and moving into smaller clothes by sharing things like caution. Side effects may include having to go shopping for new clothes, not recognizing the person you see in the mirror or outrunning your children at the playground. I've also used this approach for writing copy for a stylist. Caution side effects include having to get comfortable receiving compliments because you'll look so good saving money on clothes because you now know what to buy and what to pass up on your shopping trips and saving time because you won't be stuck staring at your closet every day wondering what to wear. And I've used this technique on website headlines. So for a client who's a business and mindset coach, we wrote an animated headline that had words rotating in that said Caution. Working with me may cause [00:03:00] more money, more fun, more ease. I just love this approach because it forces you to think about the benefits of working with you. It helps your reader picture themselves after they use your service or solution. So take a few minutes to think about the side effects of working with you.
[00:03:19] Now here's a little brainstorm to get you started. If you help your clients create more money. Uh oh. You're going to need to visit the bank to open a new bank account. Create more time. Uh oh. You'll have to decide where to take your extended vacation. If you create more clients. Uh oh. You might need to expand your team because you'll be needing help dealing with all this extra clients and community if you lose weight. Uh oh. You're going to have to buy new clothes. And if you ditch stress. Uh oh. You're going to have to find new ways to occupy your mind. The point here is to be intentionally fun and playful. Make it light. Oh, no. Watch [00:04:00] out for these problems. When you solve X, you can package this into a sales email to send through your sales sequence. Or you could just create a fun social post. So here are some subject line and headline inspiration for you. Beware these side effects of and then put your solution. So beware these side effects of looking good, of more clients, of making more money. Caution Working with me may cause this. The problem with your solution and caution more money ahead. This prompt is a really fun and effective way to share a sales message and encourage your reader to take action.
[00:04:44] So to summarize, the writing prompt for this week is the problem with fixing your problem or caution? Beware of these good side effects. If you need help brainstorming how this could work for you and your business, please come and find me on social media. [00:05:00] Send me a DM and we can hash it out.
