Welcome to ill communication, copywriting tips and sales strategies for small business. I'm your host, Kim Keel. I'm a copy coach, sales strategist, and direct response copywriter. It's my mission to help women leaders and changemakers amplify their voices through copy. It's why I'm dishing out all the juicy tips, writing prompts, and sales formulas to help you generate more leads, book more calls, and get more high value clients on repeat. Sounds pretty good. It's time to ditch the overwhelm you might be feeling and find confidence in your copywriting so you can get your message out there and attract more soulmate clients. Let's get started. Hey hey my friend, welcome back to this episode of the Ill Communication Podcast. And I don't know about you, but I am staring at the calendar, looking at how few days are left in this year, and I'm kind of freaking out about all the things that I wanted to accomplish and do. And maybe in some cases those things were a little bit out there. But in other cases, I am making progress. I've had to join some programs to help me implement some of the goals I have for my business, like creating a masterclass funnel, and I've started to take steps finally to do this. I've been wanting to do this for years, but it wasn't until I had somebody holding my hand, walking me through the steps that I was able to start moving in that direction.
[00:01:37]
Why am I sharing this with you? Because sometimes that's exactly what you need. You need someone to walk you step by step, hold your hand and guide you through how to get that thing done. And today I want to share one of my favorite tools that I share with my joy of copy club clients and students. This is something that we can all benefit from in our businesses and our customers. Clients and readers benefit from it as well. This is something that gives you a fast path to producing copy. Your audience will love and I feature this every month inside the Joy of Copy Club. What I'm talking about is a writing prompt. Now in this podcast, you have heard probably dozens of different writing prompts, and I typically share the strategy behind them. But inside the Copy Club, I share four of these killer prompts per month, along with walkthroughs of how to use it, and sometimes swipes that I have seen in the wild, or that I've written for my clients. To give you an example of how to use that writing prompt. What usually happens is anyone who's shown up to the Joy of copy meeting will come into the call, not having any projects on the go or wondering what to write. And then they'll pick one of these four prompts and they will put their head down, write it, and before the end of the meeting, they will have a draft email written.
[00:03:03]
They'll share it with me on screen and we can push it up and improve it, and then they send it out. It is so fun then to be on the receiving end. Like for many of my students, I am subscribers to their email list and I will see them send that email out minutes after the club is finished, like our club call. It is honestly one of the things that brings me the most joy and delight. So I wanted to give you a taste of one of these. This is a writing prompt that I want you to use in your business. The writing prompt is my favorite thing. You can think of a favorite thing, or you can think of multiple favorite things. What is saving your life right now? What is bringing you joy? What is helping you survive during this time of year? During this season, during these days? So share one of your favorite business or productivity tools and explain why you love it. Begin the email with an authentic story of a great tool you discovered in your life, probably outside of your business. So, for example, say you just discovered the instapot or an air fryer and how it's transformed something for you, how it's made things easier, how it's made you a better cook, a faster cook, how it's made your kids eat more of the food, whatever.
[00:04:21]
Tell the story of that tool that you really love. Then segue it into a tool you're using in your business. Maybe your readers don't know about it yet, just as you didn't know about how amazing that Instapot was, you want to make sure that they're not missing out on something awesome, like this tool that you're using in your business. Explain why you love the tool and how it helps you in your business. You could include a link to the tool, or the software, or the app, or the ebook, or whatever it is that you have found super helpful. And you know what? If it's an affiliate link that gives you a little tiny commission, go for it. You could take this further and record a loom video, where you're giving a behind the scenes of how you use this tool in your life, or how this process or system is working for you. People love these kind of over-the-shoulder tutorials, so if that works for your favorite thing, go ahead and use it and then end with a call to action to have your readers share their favorite tools with you. Now, I love using this prompt a lot. Often when I use it, I kind of share a bunch of my favorite things, so I'll share a bunch of things that are bringing me joy, saving my life, bringing me delight.
[00:05:34]
And it just gives people a behind the scenes of what's going on in my life, my business, what kinds of things I'm using. It introduces people to new helpful tools, and often people will reply and say, thanks. I never thought about trying that or hey, this is what's worked for me and it really creates engagement. When you have engagement on your email list, it means your deliverability is going up. It means people are opening and reading your emails, and you're keeping your best prospects close to you and ready to buy. So my friend, this week, I want you to sit down with this writing prompt, my favorite thing, and write an email. Start with a little story. Segue into the so what? Share the thing that is bringing you joy or boosting productivity in your business or multiple things, and then end with a call to action for your reader to share more. Send that out this week. It's a great piece of content to share at this time of year. As we're getting in towards the holidays, things are getting a little bit crazy. We could all use something to save our life a little bit right now. And let me know if you send this out. Send me your copy because I would love to see it. And if you like getting these writing prompts, the Joy of Copy Club is open. You can join it.
